Dream Home Office in Your Garage
Elevating Your Garage Into Your Dream Home Office: Here’s How It’s Done
Suppose your house is at its fullest capacity, but you still need a designated space for your home office. In this case, maybe you’ve never thought of your empty garage as being a viable area for your dream office. Real Estate By Franz shares how it can be done.
Declutter and organize
So, you’ve determined that your garage has the potential to be transformed into your ideal office space. However, it’s also the place where you’ve managed to accumulate and store all your ‘extra’ stuff over the years. Then, you’ll most certainly need to figure out how to move, store and organize these items elsewhere. This process will usually entail decluttering and disposing of those items you no longer have use for.
Flooring matters
If the flooring in your garage is a bit of an eyesore, you’ll need to ensure that it looks somewhat presentable before inviting clients around! Usually, your garage floor will require some insulation to give it that warm and cozy feel. Furthermore, adding some tiles or carpeting to the area can make it look that much more professional.
Ample lighting is essential
Lighting is one of those things you cannot afford not to invest in if you plan to work from your garage. The correct lighting is vital for any office space, and your garage is no different. In fact, it’ll probably require even more light, including a blend of natural and artificial light to brighten up the space. For example, you could try combining cooler lighting with ambient lighting to give the space some personality, as opposed to limiting it to just one or the other. Also, you might want to consider removing the garage door and replacing it with a sliding door to let in some more of that glorious outdoor light.
A fresh coat of paint to freshen up the space
Indeed, if there’s one thing that can transform a tired-looking space from drab to fab, a simple fresh coat of paint can go far in achieving this. Of course, neutral colors often work best to open up a space. However, you can still add some visual appeal by painting two-toned walls instead of the usual monochromatic look, for example.
Tech tips to make the space more functional
Constant internet is vital for most offices and is even more needed in a garage where proper signal is often lacking. After all, there’s nothing quite as frustrating as having your most productive day go down the drain because of internet issues. While Wi-Fi may not be possible logistically, you can still try using a Wi-Fi extender or setting up a portable hotspot to ensure the days of internet lagging are but a distant memory.
But what about your vehicle?
Just because your garage is now occupied doesn’t mean your car needs to be pushed to the side. You can still protect your car from the elements by using a car cover. Depending on where you live, though, it may need to be more functional than the norm because sunlight or cold weather can cause damage to your car over time. Weatherproof covers can, therefore, go a long way in preventing this damage from occurring. Reflective lights can protect your car from accidental damage, and zippers can make removing and covering your car that much easier.
A home garage office that’s out of the ordinary
In summary, just because your home office is your garage doesn’t mean it can’t be just as functional, funky, or professional. In fact, you can still make it into a dream home office that’s out of the ordinary with a few helpful tips and tricks along the way!
